Meet Our Artists
At Watercolorists Unlimited, we believe that the process of creating art is just as important as the finished product. In this section, we want to introduce you to our artists who meet monthly in order to find community, provide constructive feedback each other and stay inspired.
Elaine Citron
"I paint for the sheer joy of putting brush to paper sometimes with very unexpected results. I love watercolor because it is a very expressive medium. My work shows my love of color, and I would describe my style as loose and interpretive. On many vacations my best souvenirs are the small studies I have done in journals."
Blooming Spring
E. Jean Dunham
"There is nothing like painting in watercolors. They just flow with beauty and color and though you think you are the primary artist in each venture, you never know what they are going to do."
One Morning in Maine
Bob Heyer
"I find that my love for transparent watercolor is contagious, that the viewer can in some way visually experience the excitement and wonder of this media. Each painting is a great and exciting adventure with the prospect of discovering something new with each journey. This is the best part of watercolors coupled with its unending spontaneity. I wish everyone could experience the joy and magic of watercolors! ~ Be adventurous and go for it."
Booth Bay Harbor
Sharon Lisman
"I love the transparency of watercolor paint; the colors it can create; how they blend and contrast with each other; the feel of quality paper; the stiffness, the texture of the surface, and the paints’ immediacy on its surface. I like to see vivacity and movement in a painting. Flowers and fabric are particularly intriguing to me as they can have folds, drape, be diverse and graceful, subtle or bold. I prefer to work from life, but it is not always representational. My subject matter varies as does the size of the artwork. But I always feel that my work is personal, intimate…like a secret whispered in the ear of a best friend."
London Bedroom
Carla Olsen
"Since my childhood, I was always interested in art, but did not pursue it until I retired beginning with watercolor classes with Gayle, Bracegirdle, and Marge, Chavooshian.
Often my subject matter is inspired by northern Italy, where I was born. My inspiration is beauty and nature."
Chalet in Northern Italy
Diane Pastore
"Diane Wolff Pastore is a painter best known for capturing Central Jersey Locales; pastoral scenes, farm buildings, animals and landscapes. Having grown up in Crosswicks New Jersey, she has a great appreciation for these iconic images that are disappearing. Her love of animals is uniquely expressed in her work as well."
Haines Berry Farm
Andrea Rubinstein
"My art journey began over 10 years ago by creating travel sketchbooks. Later I decided to experiment with watercolors which has some unique challenges and sometimes feels like a daredevil act. I often take a deep breath and just tell myself “it’s only a piece of paper’. I welcome you to see if I fall off the cliff."
Out to Pasture
Leila Sawyer
"As a RISD graduate, I have experimented with many different art forms, but I have always gravitated back to watercolor because of its fluid immediacy, luminous quality and accessibility. Unlike any other medium, all you need is a piece of paper, water, a brush, and a small tube of paint to create an image to nurture yourself; and it is especially gratifying when, through muddy water trials and errors, your painting truly inspires someone. I am currently a professional artist employed in making illuminated documents for special occasions."
Angel's Trumpet
Donna Senopoulos
"I love watercolor because of its versatility. You can let the paint flow and create “happy accidents” or you can lose yourself in incredible detail. I experiment with different surfaces, and often mix mediums or use it as a foundation for drawings. It has been a lifelong source of joy!"
Above River Walk
Dale Smith
"My interest in watercolor spans more than 25 years. I have focused on landscapes with an emphasis on color, attempting to achieve dramatic results using multiple layers of transparent tints."
Light Before the Storm
Lisa Walsh
"I developed my love of watercolor while studying art at MICA in Baltimore, where I received a BFA. I love to paint landscapes, and I am always drawn to subjects with moody natural light. For me, it's always about the light! I live in Central NJ where there is so much preserved farmland, and I am inspired by the constantly changing landscape throughout the seasons. When not using watercolors, I paint on walls in acrylic, in my day job as mural painter and owner of Atmospheric Design."
